Complaints and Appeals Policy
Journal of Turkish Academic Novelty (TAN) is committed to conducting its editorial and scholarly processes in an impartial, transparent manner and in accordance with the principles of publication ethics. Authors, reviewers, readers, and other interested parties may submit complaints or appeals concerning the journal’s editorial processes, publishing practices, or decisions in accordance with this policy.
Complaints
Complaints may concern the conduct of editorial processes, peer review, ethical practices, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, the conduct of editors or reviewers, communication issues, unreasonable delays in the publication process, or the implementation of the journal’s published policies.
Complaints must be submitted in writing to turkishacademicnovelty@gmail.com, clearly stating the subject and grounds of the complaint. Where possible, the submission should include the title of the relevant manuscript, manuscript or submission details if available, the date of the event or action concerned, and any information or documentation supporting the complaint.
The journal will acknowledge receipt of a complaint within 7 business days at the latest. Complaints are reviewed in accordance with the principles of impartiality and confidentiality. Depending on the nature of the matter, additional information or explanations may be requested from authors, reviewers, editors, or other relevant parties.
Where a complaint directly concerns an editor, reviewer, or editorial board member, the matter will be reviewed by an editor or board member who is not the subject of the complaint and has no conflict of interest in relation to the matter.
The journal aims to resolve complaints, where possible, within 30 days. If the nature of the investigation requires additional time, the complainant will be informed about the progress of the process.
Appeals Against Editorial Decisions
Authors may submit a reasoned appeal against decisions arising from preliminary editorial assessment, peer review, or investigations relating to publication ethics.
An appeal must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author to turkishacademicnovelty@gmail.com within 30 days of notification of the relevant decision.
The appeal must clearly identify the decision being challenged and provide specific scientific, editorial, or procedural grounds that are considered to justify reconsideration. Any supporting information or documentation should be included where applicable.
Mere disagreement with an editorial decision or reviewer comments does not, by itself, constitute sufficient grounds for an appeal. Appeals are expected to demonstrate that significant information or findings may have been overlooked, that a substantive or procedural error may have occurred during the evaluation process, that a conflict of interest may have affected the decision, or that the decision may be inconsistent with the journal’s published policies.
Wherever possible, an appeal will be reconsidered independently of the process that resulted in the original decision. Where necessary, an opinion may be sought from another editor, editorial board member, or subject-area expert.
Only one appeal may be submitted for each editorial decision. The outcome of the appeal will be communicated to the author together with the reasons for the decision and will be considered final within the journal’s internal appeals process.
Submission of an appeal does not automatically result in the manuscript being returned to peer review or in the reversal of the previous editorial decision.
Confidentiality and Impartiality
Complaints and appeals are handled in accordance with the principles of confidentiality, impartiality, and avoidance of conflicts of interest. The exercise of the right to submit a complaint or appeal must not adversely affect the scientific evaluation of the complainant’s current or future submissions.
Individuals who are the subject of a complaint or appeal will, wherever possible, be excluded from the relevant review and decision-making process.
Where appropriate, relevant guidance and flowcharts issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) may be consulted during the review process.
