Correction, Manuscript Withdrawal and Removal Policy
Journal of Turkish Academic Novelty (TAN) considers the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record to be among its fundamental publishing responsibilities. If an error, omission, ethical violation, or any other issue that may affect the reliability of the scholarly record is identified after publication, the necessary editorial action is taken in accordance with the nature and extent of the issue.
Correction
If an error or omission is identified in a published work that does not invalidate the main findings or conclusions of the article but requires correction to ensure the accuracy of the scholarly record, a correction may be published.
Corrections may include errors made by the authors, technical or editorial errors introduced during the publication process, or other substantive errors that may affect the reader’s accurate interpretation of the work.
Where a correction is deemed necessary, the nature and scope of the correction are clearly stated, and the correction notice is linked to the relevant article. The process is carried out transparently in a manner that enables readers to understand both the original and corrected status of the scholarly record.
Manuscript Withdrawal
A manuscript submitted to the Journal of Turkish Academic Novelty (TAN) may be withdrawn from the publication process by the author(s) under certain conditions, provided that it has not yet been published.
Manuscripts that are at the preliminary editorial evaluation stage and for which the peer-review process has not yet commenced may be withdrawn upon a reasoned written request submitted by the corresponding author.
Once the peer-review process has commenced, a manuscript may be withdrawn only if a reasoned request is submitted to the editorial office and the request is approved by the editors. After the peer-review process has begun, arbitrary withdrawal without justification or withdrawal in a manner that disrupts the editorial process is not permitted.
As a general rule, manuscripts that have been editorially accepted, scheduled for publication, or have entered the typesetting or final proofreading stage may not be withdrawn at the request of the author(s). At this stage, a manuscript may be withdrawn only in exceptional circumstances, such as serious concerns regarding ethical misconduct, legal requirements, authorship disputes, significant errors affecting the reliability of the work, or other circumstances deemed justified by the editorial office.
The intention to submit the manuscript to another journal, a request to change the publication date, a subsequent decision by the author not to publish the work, or similar personal reasons do not, by themselves, constitute valid grounds for withdrawal, particularly after the peer-review process has been completed or the manuscript has entered the publication stage.
A withdrawal request must be submitted in writing by the corresponding author, with the knowledge and approval of all authors, and must clearly state the reason for withdrawal. A manuscript is not considered withdrawn until the editorial office has issued written confirmation approving the withdrawal request.
Authors may not submit the same manuscript to another journal for evaluation until the withdrawal process has been formally completed.
Removal
Complete removal of a published article, unlike manuscript withdrawal, is undertaken only in exceptional circumstances.
An article may be removed if its continued publication would be unlawful, if removal is required by a court or competent authority, if the content seriously infringes personal or privacy rights, if it constitutes a serious infringement of third-party copyright, or if continued access to the content is considered likely to cause serious and direct harm.
Removal must not be used as a means of altering the scholarly record or deleting a previously published work without leaving a record of its publication. To the extent legally and ethically possible, the bibliographic record of the removed content is retained, and a notice explaining the reason for removal is published.
Editorial Review Process
When a matter that may require correction, manuscript withdrawal, or removal is reported to the journal, the issue is reviewed by the editorial team. Where necessary, information or explanations may be requested from the authors, reviewers, relevant institutions, or other parties.
Editorial decisions are made on the basis of the integrity of the scholarly record, principles of publication ethics, impartiality, and transparency. Where deemed necessary during the review process, the relevant guidelines and flowcharts issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) are followed.
If an allegation or investigation has not yet reached a definitive conclusion but serious concerns have arisen regarding the reliability of a published work, the editorial team may, where appropriate, publish an Expression of Concern to inform readers.
